Project Summary
The purpose of the project is better to handle the increasing traffic volume at the intersection due to the adjacent truck stop and anticipated future development in the area. The roundabout will allow for better traffic flow onto Missouri Route 86 from Hammer Road and improve overall safety at the intersection.
Contractor crews will convert the intersection just east of I-49 to a dual lane roundabout. In addition, the contractor will add street lighting, signs and permanent striping.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Will Missouri Route 86 be closed during construction?
No, but traffic on Route 86 will be reduced to one lane in each direction for the duration of the project. Drivers should expect delays and are urged to find alternate routes to avoid the work zone.
Will Hammer Road be closed during construction?
Yes, Hammer Road will be CLOSED for the duration of the project. Drivers are urged to find alternate routes to avoid the work zone.
Why was a dual-lane roundabout chosen for this project?
A dual-lane roundabout was chosen as the best alternative to connect the existing lanes of Route 86. It was also determined a dual-lane roundabout was the best option for handling the large number of vehicles using this intersection.
Will semi-trucks, school buses and other large vehicles be able to easily drive through the roundabout?
Yes, most roundabouts are designed with a truck apron to accommodate large vehicles like semi-trucks, school buses, farm equipment, etc.
