MoDOT: Dynamic Message Sign Upgrade Project Planned for Several Southwest Missouri Counties

Beginning the Week of December 6

Southwest District – Drivers can expect shoulder closures and possible lane closures when a Dynamic Message Sign Upgrade project begins along I-44 in five (5) southwest Missouri counties and at various locations in Greene County, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

Contractor crews will upgrade the electrical components of the Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), also known as the electronic message boards, that are found in the state right of way of several major state routes.

Here’s a look at the DMS sign locations:

  • I-44 in Newton County:
    • Eastbound at mile marker 1
    • Westbound at mile marker 5
    • Eastbound at mile marker 10
  • I-44 in Jasper County:
    • Eastbound at mile marker 17
    • Westbound at mile marker 17
    • Westbound at mile marker 20
    • Eastbound at mile marker 25
  • I-44 in Lawrence County:
    • Westbound at mile marker 39
    • Eastbound at mile marker 45
  • I-44 in Greene County:
    • Westbound at mile marker 61
  • I-44 in Webster County:
    • Eastbound at mile marker 74
    • Westbound at mile marker 78
    • Eastbound at mile marker 81
    • Eastbound at mile marker 110
  • Greene County:
    • U.S. Route 60 eastbound at Golden Avenue
    • U.S. Route 65 northbound at Sunshine Street
    • Campbell Avenue northbound at Plainview Road
    • Kansas Expressway northbound at Sunshine Street
    • Sunshine Street westbound at Glenstone Avenue

Traffic Impacts:

  • Shoulders will be closed where crews are working
  • Possible lane closures where crews are working
  • Drivers urged to find alternate routes. No signed detours are planned.
  • Electronic message boards located near the planned road work will alert drivers to any changes in the work schedule

Weather and/or scheduling delays will alter the work schedule.

  • Prime contractor: Capital Electric Line Builders, Riverside
  • Complete date: September 1, 2022
  • Total project cost: $ 214,525
