MoDOT: Chestnut Expressway Pavement Improvement Project

Between I-44 and Broadview Place Begins Week of May 2

Springfield, Greene County – Drivers can expect lane closings, traffic shifts, and possible delays on Chestnut Expressway (Loop 44) in west Springfield when a pavement improvement project begins the week of May 2, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.

The project will replace the pavement on Chestnut Expressway (Loop 44) between I-44 and Broadview Place and install new guardrail and road signs along the project in west Springfield. Contractor crews plan to have the Chestnut Expressway pavement improvements completed by July 2022. This project also includes pavement improvements on I-44 at Missouri Route 744 (Mulroy Road) and a bridge rehabilitation on Missouri Route 744 (Mulroy Road) over I-44 in northeast Springfield. The I-44 pavement improvements will begin in July 2022. More information on this project is to come soon.

Chestnut Expressway Pavement Improvement Project Traffic Impacts:

  • Lane closures and traffic shifts on Chestnut Expressway (Loop 44) between I-44 and Broadview Place in west Springfield
  • Eastbound I-44 on and off ramps CLOSED for 1 weekend. I-44 on ramp and off ramp closures will not coincide.
  • Lanes of Haseltine Road (Farm Road 115) closed at Chestnut Expressway for 2 weekends
  • Broadview Place closed at Chestnut Expressway for 1 weekend
  • Haseltine Road and Broadview Place detour: Missouri Route 360 (James River Freeway), Missouri Route 413 (Sunshine Street), U.S. Route 160 (West Bypass)
  • Crews will work both daytime and nighttime hours
  • Drivers should not pass in the work zone due to narrowed driving lanes
  • Crews and equipment close to traffic in areas
  • Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
  • Drivers should look for an alternate route

Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
