Springfield – Drivers can expect lane closures at U.S. Route 65 and road and ramp CLOSURES at Battlefield Road due to resurfacing work, and a bridge CLOSURE at Cherry Street over Route 65 due to bridge rehabilitation work, beginning the week of August 14, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Here’s a look at the project:
- Cherry Street
- Resurface and upgrading sidewalks to conform to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements between Ingram Mill Avenue to Eastgate Avenue in Springfield
- Rehabilitate Cherry Street bridge over Route 65
- Install new curb, guardrail and pedestrian railing
- Battlefield Road
- Resurface and upgrading sidewalks, signs and signals to conform to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements between Moulder Avenue and Woodstock Avenue In Springfield
- Crews are scheduled begin work on Battlefield Road first
- Portion of project is a cost share with the City of Springfield
- U.S. Route 65
- Resurface just north and south of Greene County Route D (Sunshine Street) in Springfield
Crews are scheduled to begin work on the Cherry Street bridge the week of August 14. Resurfacing work is scheduled to begin in September.
Traffic Impacts:
- Cherry Street
- Cherry Street will be CLOSED over Route 65 for up to 3 weeks beginning Monday, August 14
- Drivers will have access to driveways and entrances on both sides of the work zone, but will not be able to drive through the work zone
- Signed detour: Ingram Mill Road, Chestnut Expressway, Route 65
- Battlefield Road
- Battlefield Road CLOSED between Moulder Avenue and Woodstock Avenue during nighttime hours 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Sunday – Thursday for up to 5 days
- Battlefield on and off ramps CLOSED at Route 65 during nighttime hours 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Sunday – Thursday
- All lanes and ramps will be open during daytime hours
- Route 65
- Traffic reduced to one lane where contractor crews are laying asphalt during nighttime hours 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Sunday – Thursday
- All lanes will be open during daytime hours
- Drivers should find alternate routes
- Signs and message boards will alert drivers approaching the work zone
- Crews and equipment close to traffic in areas
Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.

- Total project cost: $1.5 million
- Contract completion date: November 1, 2023
