Where: Glenstone Avenue south of Evergreen Street and Glenstone Avenue at Evangel University north of Pythian Street
When: Week of October 2
What: This is part of the Glenstone Avenue Safety, Operational, Pedestrian, and Pavement Project. Crews will turn on the two new HAWK (High Intensity Activated Crosswalk) signals on Glenstone Avenue.
HAWK signals are traffic signals that allow pedestrians to cross the road safely. Unlike traffic signals, the HAWK only operates when a pedestrian pushes the crossing button. Motorists should respond to yellow and solid red lights in the same manner as any other traffic signal. After stopping for the red light, motorists may proceed through the crossing area during the flashing red light interval only when safe to do so without risk to pedestrians. Check out this HAWK signal educational flyer created by the City of Springfield found here.
