Springfield, Greene County – Those interested in a project to improve traffic flow along Greene County Route D (East Sunshine Street) in Springfield are invited to a public hearing to discuss proposed improvements and project information on Tuesday, February 6, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The come-and-go style meeting will be held 4:30 – 6 p.m., Tuesday, February 6, at Schweitzer Student Center, 2701 E. Sunshine Street, Springfield. No formal presentation is planned. Those who attend may come at any time between 4:30 p.m. and 6 p.m. to learn about the project and ask questions.
Those unable to attend the in-person meeting can view exhibits, get project information and leave comments by visiting www.modot.org/southwest.

Project highlights:
- Proposed improvements at various locations on Greene County Route D (Sunshine Street) between Business 65 (Glenstone Avenue) in Springfield and Farm Road 199 east of Springfield include:
- Signal improvements
- Sidewalk (ADA) improvements
- Intersection improvements
- Safety and traffic operations improvement by managing access
- Resurfacing and pavement markings will be constructed between Business 65 (Glenstone Avenue) in Springfield and Missouri Route 125 east of Springfield.
Expected traffic impacts during construction:
- Lane closings on Greene County Route D (Sunshine Street) at times
- Narrowed lanes and traffic shifts on Missouri Greene County Route D (Sunshine Street) at times
- During higher traffic volume times, drivers can expect occasional delays
- During the intersection work, turn lanes may be closed at times
- Crews and equipment close to traffic in areas
- Drivers may need to seek alternate routes to get to their destinations
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025.
The estimated project cost is $10.7 million.
