JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – On Friday morning, drivers on eastbound Interstate 44 east of St. Robert can expect a traffic shift, stopped traffic, and delays at the bridge over the Big Piney River near mile marker 165.6.
In October 2023, a four-bridge rehabilitation project led by Olympus Painting Contractors, Inc., working with the Missouri Department of Transportation, closed the eastbound driving lane (right-hand lane) of I-44 over the Big Piney River.
With one half of the bridge complete, traffic will be shifted to the newly completed side and the eastbound passing lane (left-hand lane) will close to allow crews to complete the rehabilitation of the other half of the bridge.
The traffic shift is scheduled to begin at approximately 8 a.m. Friday, March 1, and should be complete by 4 p.m. the same day. During the shift, barricades will be moved from one side of the road to the other and traffic may be stopped briefly. Motorists should expect delays.
This single-lane work zone is anticipated to remain in place through the end of the project, which is expected to continue through April 2024.
All work is weather-permitting, and schedules are subject to change.
