Springfield, Greene County – Drivers can expect lane closings, narrow lanes and traffic shifts on Kearney Street (Missouri Route 744) in Springfield when contractor crews resurface, install signal, turn lanes, intersection and sidewalk (ADA) improvements beginning the week of June 3, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Crews will begin to place work zone and construction signs the week of May 20. Majority of the Kearney Street (Missouri Route 744) sidewalk (ADA) work will be done during daytime hours. Resurfacing work will be done during nighttime hours of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.
This project includes resurfacing Mulroy Road between I-44 and Greene County Route OO in Springfield and sidewalk (ADA) improvements work on U.S. Route 65 between Missouri Route 32 and south of Truman Road in Buffalo.
Project improvements at various locations on Kearney Street (Route 744) in Springfield include:
- Replace existing non-compliant sidewalk and curb ramps in accordance with ADA requirements
- Install new sidewalk and ADA curb ramps to fill in sidewalk gaps
- Replace existing push buttons with audible push buttons at signalized intersections
- Install HAWK (High Intensity Activated Crosswalk) signals on Kearney Street (Route 744) at Robberson Avenue, Summit Avenue and Broadway Avenue
- Replace existing non-compliant bus stop pads to meet ADA standards
- Replace existing driveways to meet ADA standards
- Update pavement marking to high visibility continental marking at crosswalks to enhance pedestrian safety
- Install turn lane at Airport Commerce Avenue
- Resurface Kearney Street (Route 744) between Springfield-Branson National Airport and Greene County Route OO
- Resurface Mulroy Road between I-44 and Greene County Route OO
Project improvements on U.S. Route 65 between Missouri Route 32 and south of Truman Road in Buffalo include:
- Replace existing non-compliant sidewalk and curb ramps in accordance with ADA requirements
- Install new sidewalk and ADA curb ramps to fill in sidewalk gaps
- Replace existing push buttons with audible push buttons at signalized intersections
- Replace existing non-compliant bus stop pads to meet ADA standards
- Replace existing driveways to meet ADA standards
- Update pavement marking to high visibility continental marking at crosswalks to enhance pedestrian safety
Traffic Impacts:
- Lane closings, narrowed lanes and traffic shifts on Kearney Street (Route 744) at times
- During intersection work, turn lanes may be closed at times
- Crews and equipment close to traffic
- Temporary partial driveway disruptions during construction
- During higher traffic volume times, expect occasional delays
- No signed detour for Kearney Street (Route 744) work
- Drivers may need to seek alternate routes to get to their destinations
Weather and/or construction delays will alter the work schedule.
Capital Paving & Construction, Columbia is doing the work for a low bid amount of $14.9 million.
The project is to be completed by December 31, 2025.
