Greene County - Drivers can expect lane closings at the intersection of U.S. Route 65 and Bluegrass Road (Farm Road 94) north of Springfield beginning the week of June 3, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
Contract crews will build a new J-Turn at the Route 65 and Bluegrass Road (Farm Road 94) intersection. Signs will be installed and contractor equipment brought in beginning May 15.
The J-turn is an alternative to traditional roadway intersections on a four-lane highway. Instead of motorists crossing fast-moving lanes of traffic to get to the opposing lanes, drivers at a J-turn intersection turn right in the same direction of traffic, merge into the left lane, and then make a u-turn in the direction they intend to travel. Although drivers will have to travel slightly further to get where they want to go, using J-turns can take the same or less time than trying to wait for a safe and appropriate gap to cross traffic.
Traffic Impacts:
- Drivers can expect lane closings on Route 65 during the day
- One lane of Route 65 open in each direction at all times
- Traffic will encounter flaggers on Bluegrass Road (Farm Road 94) directing traffic through the work zone
- Crews and equipment close to traffic
- Signs and message boards will alert drivers to the closure
- Drivers urged to find alternate routes. No signed detours are planned.
- Electronic message boards located near the planned road work will alert drivers to any changes in the work schedule
- Check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for road closings/traffic impacts
Weather and/or construction delays could alter the work schedule.
