NOTICE OF OPEN-HOUSE PUBLIC HEARING

ON THE DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION OF PAVEMENT, TRAFFIC FLOW, SAFETY AND SIDEWALK IMPROVEMENTS ON ROUTE 66 (7th STREET) FROM ROUTE P (SCHIFFERDECKER AVENUE) TO LOOP 49 (RANGE LINE ROAD) IN JASPER COUNTY, MISSOURI, IN THE CITY OF JOPLIN

Notice is hereby given to all interested persons that a public hearing will be held in the 5th Floor Council Chambers of Joplin City Hall, 602 South Main Street, Joplin, Missouri on Thursday, November 7, 2024, between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., Central Standard Time. Parking at the meeting is available in the public parking lot on the west side of the building.  Access for people with disabilities is available.  All interested persons will be given an opportunity to be heard concerning their views on the design and construction of Route 66, Jasper County, with reference to the economic and social effects of such design, its impact on the environment, its consistency with the goals and objectives of the community, and its impacts to Ewert Park.  An open-house format will be used, and persons may discuss the project and offer comments at any time between the prescribed hours.  The presently contemplated improvement is as follows:

The Route 66 project runs along Route 66 (7th Street) from Route P (Schifferdecker Avenue) to Loop 49 (Range Line Road) in the city of Joplin.  The project will replace aging infrastructure, improve accessibility for pedestrians, and enhance traffic operations and safety throughout the corridor. MoDOT’s total investment in the corridor is $60.2 million.  The total length of the improvement is 3.98 miles.  Right of way and easements will be acquired for this project.

Maps, plats, and other detailed information prepared by the Missouri Department of Transportation, or interested agency, will be available for public inspection and copying at the office of the District Engineer of the Missouri Department of Transportation, 2915 Doughboy Drive, Joplin, Missouri, 64804.  Written statements and exhibits, as well as oral statements, will be received at the hearing.  Written statements and exhibits will be made a part of the public hearing transcript if received within ten working days after the date of the hearing.  Comments will be accepted in written form, or by providing a recorded statement.  In addition, a virtual public hearing will be available online at the following website from October 31, 2024 to November 14, 2024.

Tentative schedules for right of way acquisition and construction will be discussed at the public hearing.  Construction is tentatively expected to begin in spring 2025, with a December 2027 completion date.
