Route A over Cyclone Hollow and Richwoods Creek Bridge Replacements
The Missouri Route A bridges over Cyclone Hollow and Richwoods Creek are in need of replacement. The bridges are in poor condition, showing signs of aging, and their current designs are causing more deterioration. The new bridges will have up-to-date engineering, designed to help them last longer and increase safety. The bridges and roads leading up to them will also have slight alignment changes to decrease the curve, which will also increase safety.
Project Progress
The Missouri Department of Transportation designed new bridges over Cyclone Hollow and Richwoods Creek. Both new bridges will be wider with new alignment to the road for improved safety.
The project was part of MoDOT's May 2023 letting. The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the $1,423,373 contract to Joe’s Bridge & Grading, Inc. at their June 2023 meeting. The notice to proceed date was in 2023, and work has begun on Cyclone Hollow bridge as of Feb. 2024.
Construction has begun on the Cyclone Hollow Bridge and should be finished in May. Both bridges will be closed for replacement and motorists will need to use an alternate route. By contract, the contractor may not close the Richwoods Creek Bridge until school is no longer in session, and both bridges may not be closed at the same time.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Why is MoDOT replacing the bridges?
The Cyclone Hollow box culvert was built in 1962 and the Richwoods Creek bridge was built in 1944. Over the years, water and other debris have begun to deteriorate the bridges. Both structures are now in poor condition and in need of replacement.
How will the construction affect traffic?
The project will involve full closures of both Route A bridges, but not simultaneously. The Cyclone Hollow Bridge will be closed first, and the contractor is allowed 105 calendar days to complete the work. Once the Cyclone Hollow Bridge reopens, the Richwoods Creek Bridge will be closed. By contract, the Richwoods Creek Bridge must close after school has been dismissed for the summer, and the contractor is allowed 75 calendar days to reopen the bridge.
