Project Summary
Route 8 & Route 47 Bridge Improvements
The Route 8 bridge over Bates Creek and the Route 47 bridge over Mineral Fork Creek are both being rehabilitated. While both bridges are in good condition, there are routine repairs needed to several components - and deck sealing where needed – that will extend the usable life of each bridge.
Route 8 Bridge
Work on the Route 8 bridge over Bates Creek, built in 1992, will include repairs to the substructure, and a new wearing surface. The contractor will have 30 calendar days to complete this repair. The bridge construction will be staged so that one lane will remain open with temporary signals.
Route 47 Bridge
The Mineral Fork Creek Bridge on Route 47, built in 1981 will also have staged construction with one lane remaining open with temporary signals guiding motorists through the work zone. Crews will replace the existing driving surface and expansion joints, repair concrete, and add a protective coating. The contractor is allowed up to 74 calendar days to complete this work.
Project Progress
The Missouri Department of Transportation and its consultants designed improvements to extend the life of the bridges, including substructure repair, replacing expansion joints, concrete repair, and applying new driving surfaces.
The project was part of MoDOT's April 2024 letting when contractors submitted competitive bids. At their May meeting, the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission awarded the $1,091,402.40 contract to Concrete Strategies, LLC and issued a June 3, 2024, notice to proceed – the earliest date the contractor could begin work.
The construction crew anticipates beginning work in early June. From the first day of construction, Route 8 will have 30 calendar days to be completed and Route 47 will have 74 days to be completed. Traffic on both bridges will be narrowed to one lane with temporary signals during construction.
Work on both bridges is expected to be completed by mid-August 2024.
